This is new wood to me called Sugarberry. Unfortunately, the center of the fairly large piece had a lot of dry rot. Additionally, as it had been on the ground for too long the spalting had advanced to the point of making the wood soft. But as an experiment with soft wood I turned this 9″ bowl and then proceeded to finish it. I had been told to emerge the entire piece in either stabilizer or shellac. Since I had shellac on hand that is what I did. There are 3 pieces of this wood left and I must decide what to do, burn barrel or do something. Live and learn
